Steel wire used to manufacture springs of various types and applications. The main types include:
(1) Steel wire for cold-rolled springs. These springs are cold-rolled and then used without heat treatment or only heated at low temperatures; these are mainly carbon spring steel wires.
(2) Spring steel wire that has undergone heat treatment after coiling; these are mainly alloy spring steel wires.
(3) Tempered spring steel wire, also known as oil-quenched and tempered spring steel wire.
(4) Stainless steel spring wire. This type of wire is mostly made of austenitic stainless steel; its production characteristics are described in the section on alloy steel wire. In addition, deformation heat-treated steel wire is under development.
